Forskningssamarbejde mellem Centre Menopause Quebec og
Lægeklinikken Nuuk.
The Menopause Québec Center is a team working on women health in Canada. Collaborative research in Greenland gives us a great opportunity to compare populations and to get a better understanding of the relationships between environmental risk factors and women diseases in different cultural context. As we did recently work in collaboration with medical researchers in Nuuk, it brought us an interesting opportunity to understand how Inuit women live in Greenland. Futhermore, we believe it is essentiel to emphasize on their cultural aspects and to consider how Denmark lifestyle could influence their living. Also, it seems important to understand their concerns about the menopause and to explore environmental factors, such as high level of smoking, their low physical activity practice and their low sun exposure. All these elements could influence their risk of developing osteoporosis. In this regard, their

traditional or untraditional nutritional habits, for example
the fatty acids consumption, become a major interest because it might
influence their health.
As populations of Inuits are living in North Canada, in Nunavik, and at the present time, several research are done here in Québec city on osteoporosis, we surely believe that it could be interesting to make comparisons between different population of women. This collaboration is important for us. We should find interesting results about those different lifestyles. These future studies might eventually prevent health disorders such as osteoporosis, heart disease and nutritional disorders in these populations. For our group, research in Greenland offers a new avenue and surely great issues, which should give opportunity to prevent women health. We wish to invest time and energy in that important open international collaboration. Suzanne Cote
